The Culture of Technology in Play Therapy

The modern, digital era and the coronavirus pandemic contributed to a monumentally heightened reliance on technology. This workshop supports the contemporary play therapist in providing culturally relevant and theoretically sound digital and virtual play therapy practice.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: After attending this workshop, participants will be able to: 

  1. Define chosen core theoretical framework for play therapy practice.
  2. Describe two or more ways that the new world of technology impacts children and influences their participation in play therapy.
  3. Apply clinically sound virtual and digital play therapy interventions based on theoretical framework and client problem behavior.
  4. Identify two diversity factors and two ethical considerations when navigating the virtual and digital play therapy platform.

Session limited to 40 participants. | 3 APT Contact CE | Foundational Level | Play Therapy Skills and Methods

ABOUT OUR PRESENTER: : Dr. Rachel Altvater, PsyD, RPT-S, is an award-winning, pioneering expert, leader, researcher, international trainer, author, and supervisor in the field of play therapy. She is a Licensed Psychologist in Maryland, Washington, DC, and Virginia, and she holds national certifications as a Registered Play Therapist–Supervisor and Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. She is the owner of Creative Psychological Health Services, president of the Maryland/DC Association for Play Therapy, and an instructor at Hopscotch. Dr. Altvater published her research in the International Journal of Play Therapy on technology use in play therapy and is a contributing author in numerous scholarly texts on implementing digital technologies in play therapy practice.

VIRTUAL: This will be a virtual meeting. Participants will be awarded APT CONTACT CE after successful completion of a post test. Participants must be visible throughout the presentation. Due to COVID-19 health concerns, this one-time online event has been approved by APT for 3 CONTACT CE Hours.

MIAPT is approved by the Association for Play Therapy to offer continuing education specific to Play Therapy. APT Approved Provider 99-050. MIAPT maintains responsibility for the program.

PHOTO RELEASE: By registering for this training, you are giving permission for MIAPT to use any photographs (screenshots) that are taken at the event containing your likeness for as long as MIAPT deems appropriate and desirable. Photographs may be used on the MIAPT website, social media pages, and/or newsletter for any purpose. By completing the registration, you are also consenting to waive any rights to the photographs indefinitely. If you do not wish to have your photo used, it is your responsibility to notify MIAPT of your request to be omitted.

CANCELLATION POLICY: If you notify MIAPT you are canceling, and we are able to fill your spot, you will receive a refund for the registration fee minus $15 administrative fee. Cancellation requests must be made in writing. No refunds after April 1, 2022.
